In Brief: BankBoston Exec To Quit After Merger

BankBoston Corp. said Tuesday that executive vice president Ira Jackson would leave the company upon the closing of the bank's merger with Fleet Financial Group, scheduled for the fall.

A former city hall operative and state revenue commissioner under Gov. Michael Dukakis, Mr. Jackson has been with BankBoston for 12 years, heading corporate and community affairs.

The bank said he "would continue to provide assistance" to the merged company and would retain his chairmanship of BankBoston Development Co., the urban investment unit which Mr. Jackson helped found.

Mr. Jackson, 50, said he will look for a new job similar to his post at BankBoston, where it was "possible to practice capitalism with a conscience."
