Monitise Americas LLC is planning to introduce a version of its Mobile Money application for phones that use Google Inc.'s Android operating system.

The Providence, R.I., company said last week that the free app would be available "soon" through Google's Android Market, and will offer a variety of financial capabilities, including payments.

Monitise Americas, a joint venture of Fidelity National Information Services Inc. and the London mobile banking software vendor Monitise PLC, already offers a Mobile Money app for Apple Inc.'s iPhone.

"Android is going to be big, and we will look to capitalize on" its "capabilities, such as social networking," Neil Sentance, a vice president of wireless business development at Monitise, said in a press release.
