Polonia in Pennsylvania Hires Banking Vet as New Chief

Polonia Bancorp in Huntingdon Valley, Pa., has hired banking veteran Joseph Svetik as its chief executive.

The $305 million-asset company said in a press release Monday that it had also hired Svetik to become its president. Svetik, who will join Polonia's board, recently served as a director of JTNB Bancorp and its Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank.

Svetik spent much of his professional career as chairman, president and chief executive of ESSA Bancorp and, before that, First Star Bank.

Svetik, who has also been a consultant to banks, was a bank examiner for eight years before joining First Star in 1989.

Svetik succeeded Paul Rutkowski, who became interim CEO in August when Anthony Szuszczewicz retired.
