WASHINGTON — The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. will have a new head of legislative affairs after longtime FDIC official Eric Spitler retires at the end of the year.
Andy Jiminez, who is currently the acting deputy director of the FDIC's legislative affairs office, will succeed Spitler on Dec. 26, FDIC Chairman Martin Gruenberg said in a recent internal memo to agency staff.
Jiminez has been with the FDIC's legislative office since July 2012 after serving as Democratic aide in the House. He was previously an attorney at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
Spitler, who has had two stints as the director of legislative affairs, most recently took over in 2012 after returning to the FDIC from a position at the Securities and Exchange Commission. Spitler previously held a number of positions at the FDIC, totaling 21 years at the agency. He has also worked for Rep. Elizabeth Patterson, D-S.C., and Rep. Elliott Levitas, D-Ga.
Jiminez has a law degree from Ohio State University and a bachelor's from Tulane University. Spitler has a bachelor's from Furman University and a law degree from the North Carolina School of Law.
