Behind the Postal Banking Push

The U.S. Post Office should get into banking. With that assertion, agency Inspector General David Williams created quite a stir a few months ago. Behind the proposal are dueling postal officials with very different policy positions and agendas. Plus a murmur of momentum on Capitol Hill. American Banker reporter Kevin Wack explains.

Can't run an efficient Postal Department now want to take on making he banking world more inefficient. Post Offices are closing due to their extremely high wages. Bank's operating post offices are the better way to go

A solution to the Post Office's problems as well as under served communities? Seems Big Bank aren't prepared to compete against the brand recognition and perception of trust that a Postal Bank would possess. Good thing the Inspector General's term doesn't end until 2017. He is sure to take even more heat if this idea takes on steam.
