George Garrick

George Garrick is a serial tech CEO, board member, advisor and investor specializing in consumer, advertising and promotion, marketing, mobile and retail information services and technologies. Operationally he specializes in growth stage companies and turnarounds and has so far had one IPO and four exits for a combined investor value of almost $3 billion.�Following degrees in math, engineering, and a Master’s in Management, starting in 1981 he spent 15 years as a member of the initial management team of IRI (Information Resources, Inc.) where he helped grow it from $2 million to $300 million and served as President of US Information Services, CEO of IRI Europe, and CEO of IRI North America. During this time IRI was the undisputed leader in marketing, advertising and retail information services and technology and Garrick became one of the nation’s leading experts in these fields. He also served as CEO of A.C. Nielsen for a short time.�In 1996 Garrick moved from Chicago to Silicon Valley to pursue a career in the early Internet, and in 1999 he led a $500 million IPO for Flycast Communications which he built into the largest and most successful advertising and direct marketing network of its time. Following Flycast Garrick held CEO positions at a number of startup companies including PlaceWare (sold to Microsoft), Wine.com, 1-800-FREE411, Tapjoy, Social Shield, and Brand.net. His past and current board, advisor and investor involvements include Shopzilla, Responsys, Digital Impact, Telephia, Comscore, Qik, Playdom, Adify, Dynamic Signal, Exitround and Shelfbucks. Garrick lives with his wife and 3 teenagers in Silicon Valley where they are active on behalf of several causes, and he serves on the Menlo Atherton School Foundation Board and has guest lectured at Purdue, UCLA, Northwestern and the University of Chicago.
