Guy S. Neal is a partner in Sidley’s Washington, D.C., office. He has significant experience in complex business bankruptcies, having represented debtors, creditors, committees of creditors, equity holders, trustees, lenders, financial guarantors, landlords, financing companies and purchasers of distressed assets in all phases of bankruptcy reorganization. Mr. Neal has also represented credit enhancers, bondholders and bond trustees in Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcies. His practice also includes out-of-court workouts and restructurings, as well as state court receiverships and related proceedings in various jurisdictions across the United States. His industry experience encompasses commercial real estate, municipalities, airlines, hospitals and other health care facilities, retail, telecom, energy, hotels, educational institutions and accounting and other professional services. Mr. Neal is also an experienced litigator with first- and second-chair trial experience in a variety of business-related matters in state and federal courts. He has substantial experience in all phases of complex commercial litigation and bankruptcy litigation, practice and case management from both the debtor and creditor’s perspective including relief from stay, adequate protection, priming lien, valuation, preference, fraudulent transfer, subordination, competing plan and appellate litigation. Mr. Neal is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center where he teaches Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights. Mr. Neal is a co-chair of the Washington, D.C. office’s Committee of Training and Development and coordinates and teaches sessions on advanced litigation skills, advocacy and trial practice.
