Michelle Bonner Techel heads the Digital Payments team for Consumer Financial Services (CFS), managing chip cards, digital wallets and payment security with a focus on the new uses of data and technology. Michelle’s team is leading the conversion of our consumer credit cardholders to the EMV/Chip Card standard. Her team also led the work of CFS to bring our partnerships with Apple and Android and the respective launches of Apple Pay and Android Pay to the marketplace. Michelle also plays a leadership role on the Payment Security Taskforce, an industry group encompassing financial institutions, merchants and networks.In 2012, Michelle joined the CFS leadership team as the Head of Strategy & Development. In this newly created role, Michelle was responsible for Strategy and Planning, Digital Payments, New Business Development and Customer Experience. She built out this new set of functions and brought in new talent from across Wells Fargo as well as from within the financial services industry before moving into her current role.Prior to joining CFS, Michelle held a number of key roles throughout Wells Fargo with a focus on digital channels. She served as both the Head of Consumer Product Strategy & Support and as the lead for Online Sales and Marketing for Deposits and Investments in the in the Digital Channels Group. She also led the Information-Based Marketing team in the Wealth Management Group.Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Michelle was a consultant for McKinsey & Co. serving media and private equity clients. Michelle also worked at the U.S. Treasury Department as a Senior Advisor and Director of Planning, where she helped with the roll-out of the first currency redesign in a generation. Prior to the Treasury Department, Michelle worked in The White House as an advance person in the communications department and was the Director of the Media Center for the Inaugural Committee.Michelle received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with honors from the University of California at Los Angeles and a Masters in Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. She also attended Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.
