William Sampson

Executive VP & Chief Information Officer

Mr. Sampson joined East Carolina Bank in January of 2010 as Vice President and Chief Information Officer brining over 11 years of information technology management and financial expertise to the organization. In October of 2010, Mr. Sampson was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. In January of 2012, Mr. Sampson was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer with ECB Bancorp, Inc. and East Carolina Bank. Mr. Sampson enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on active duty in 1999. He was stationed at Marine Corps Security Forces Training Company located in Chesapeake Virginia. During Mr. Sampson’s time in the Marine Corps he served as the Personal Readiness Program Chief, Training Chief, and Information Systems Management Officer for Marine Corps Security Forces Training Company. Mr. Sampson was promoted to the rank of Sergeant while on active duty and was Honorably Discharged in 2003. In 2003 Mr. Sampson joined Gateway Bank as a member of their Information Technology Department. During Mr. Sampson’s time at Gateway Bank he helped grow the banks technology and operational infrastructure from a six branch $275mm asset institution to a forty four branch $2.2B institution. During this time Mr. Sampson was promoted up to Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer.In 2008 Hampton Roads BankShares acquired Gateway Bank and Mr. Sampson continued his role as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of the combined 60 branch $3.2B financial institution. Mr. Sampson served in this capacity until his current employment with East Carolina Bank. Education:Mr. Sampson’s educational background includes an MBA and Bachelor of Science from Western Governors University, an Associates of Applied Science from ECPI College of Technology, and completion of the NCBA School of Banking.
