The family received the payout after committing to the year long contest that sought to help them become better savers and improve their financial state.

The family said the "challenge really taught us how to be more thoughtful and wiser with our finances. Working together with Connex, we were able to stick to a budget plan, prioritize and ultimately, save money, reduce debt and get ahead. This challenge was a life changing opportunity that is something we'll always remember."

The Roche family was surprised at the Guilford Connex branch by a team of Connex employees, balloons, flowers and an oversized check in their name for $10,000.

For an entire year, four families participated in the Connex Credit Union 2009 Savings Challenge contest. Each family worked closely with a Connex Credit Union financial coach throughout the year to set savings goals tailored to their individual financial situations.

Their successes were documented and closely monitored for the entire year.  A panel of judges reviewed each team's progress and a winner was selected.

The winning family received a grand prize of $10,000 and the three other families were rewarded with a $1,000 prize for their efforts.
