GLENDORA, Calif.-America's Christian Credit Union has unveiled a new staff benefit that awards any employee adopting a child a $5,000 grant to be used to help defray the many expenses involved in the adoption process.
Bruce Lund, AVP of marketing for the $250.2-million CU, told Credit Union Journal the new program is "something that speaks to our mission and who we serve-churches and ministries."
According to Lund, America's Christian CU has a partnership with a company named Medi-Share, which offers a medical sharing benefit that is an alternative to traditional healthcare people obtain through their employers. The company helps pastors and other self-employed people get insurance at reasonable rates.
"We found out Medi-Share was offering an adoption grant benefit to its employees and thought it was a really neat idea," he said. "We wanted to offer something similar to our employees."
The credit union's board gave approval for the adoption grant last month, and Lund said it was introduced to employees on March 1.
"It is a special and unique benefit that goes with the heart of ministry and what we are all about," he said. "No one has jumped up and said 'I'm in' over the last few days, but it is a wonderful opportunity to give back to our employees."
In 2011 America's Christian CU posted more than $1.1 million in net income after assessments. Its net worth ratio was 8.87% ("well capitalized").
