RALEIGH, N.C.-The SECU Daily Planet is now open here, following a 24-hour grand opening of the Nature Research Center (NRC), a new 80,000 square-foot wing of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. The focal point of the new facility is a giant silver globe, the SECU Daily Planet, that is sponsored by State Employees Credit Union in recognition of a $4-million grant provided to the museum by the SECU Foundation. The Daily Planet houses a three story, multi-media program area. Some 50,000 people were expected to visit during the grand opening alone, and up to 900,000 people are expected to visit the Nature Research Center this year.
"SECU Daily Planet is a natural fit for the SECU Foundation, as it supports one of the Foundation's objectives of funding high impact projects in the area of education," said SECU Foundation Chairman Jim Barber.
