After 59 Years, Yokum To Retire

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – In what will be her 59th year with the credit union, Jean M. Yokum said she will retire as president/CEO of Langley Federal Credit Union on July 17, 2012.

Yokum joined Langley FCU in 1953 as a teller and was named CEO in 1979. During her career Yokum has overseen growth from $76 million in assets to $1.6 billion and 180,000 members.

“Fifty-eight years might seem like a long time to some, but I enjoyed and appreciated every minute,” said Yokum in a statement. “For me, it has been 58 short years.”

During those six decades Yokum has been active in a variety of local (USO of Hampton Roads, Virginia Air & Space Center) and credit union (Virginia league) and national (Defense CU Council) causes, and has been named NAFCU CEO of the Year, inducted into the CUES Hall of Fame, was presented with the Virginia CU League Lifetime Achievement Award, and was named as the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities Humanitarian of the Year.
