TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama CU said it has doubled its membership growth to 400 a month since last year’s introduction of a clear ATM/check card.

Credit union officials say the clear cards have proven very popular with members, who think they are cool. The cards are more expensive than traditional plastic, $3.25 each, versus $1.25.
The $15O million credit union ordered 8,000 of the cards and already has distributed more than 1,000 of them. New members get the cards, as do members who need a new card for any reason.
