WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.-While their trade associations have made a priority out of stopping the credit union member business lending legislation, one poll shows a significant percentage of bankers are not against CUs expanding their MBL lending.
According to an online poll conducted by the American Banker, a sister publication to Credit Union Journal, 55% of respondents are against expansion of CU MBL lending, while 45% have no issues with the legislation. Twenty-eight percent agree CUs doing more business lending is healthy competition that will benefit lending overall, and 17% are OK with passing the MBL bill as long as requirements are in place to ensure expansion is handled wisely.
