SOUTH BEND – Two men tried to steal money from a Notre Dame FCU ATM Monday by ramming it with a stolen pickup truck, according to police.

South Bend police were dispatched to the credit union, where they found the ATM overturned and a red pickup truck impaled on a bollard protecting the machine.
The man who reported the incident told police he heard a loud noise and then saw two men leave the truck and try unsuccessfully to obtain money from the machine. The witness said it appeared the men rammed the ATM several times with the vehicle before the machine toppled.
The truck, registered to a company in Indianapolis, was reported stolen from Elkhart.
