Aurora Federal Credit Union in Colorado names new CEO

Aurora Federal Credit Union in Colorado has hired Charlie Watts as its new president and CEO.

Watts was most recently senior vice president and chief financial officer for the $298 million-asset Colorado Credit Union in Littleton, a role he held for the past eight years. Before that he was a sales and marketing manager for SunCorp Corporate Credit Union in Westminster, Colorado, until its merger with Alloya Corporate Federal Credit Union in Warrenville, Illinois.

Watts succeeds Jeff Holler, who retired in June after 31 years with the $129 million-asset Aurora. Blake Smith, who has been interim CEO, will resume his role as vice president of information technology and accounting after Watt takes over.

“Charlie is passionate about providing excellent service and value to our members, and we look forward to the continued success and growth of our credit union under his leadership,” Mark Stephenson, Aurora's chairman, said in a press release Wednesday.

Watts, who will start at the $129 million-asset Aurora on Jan. 1, said in the press release, “I look forward to joining the Aurora FCU team and working for our members, our staff and our community.”

The credit union earned $693,000 in the first nine months of 2021, a 7% decrease from a year earlier, according to call report data from the National Credit Union Administration.
