DENVER – Fast-growing Bellco CU has applied to state regulators to expand its community presence to enable it to serve almost 1.4 million people in three surrounding counties, which would give it one of the broadest charters in the country.
The $2 billion credit union, which grew 20% in the first half of the year, already operates under a broad hybrid charter, which enables it to serve more than 1,000 select employee groups as well as a small community surrounding its branch network.
The Colorado Financial Services Board will hold a public hearing Oct. 17 on the proposed charter expansion, which would cover Arapahoe, Jefferson and Douglas counties.
The Board also will review a request from Colorado CU to serve about 300,000 people in parts of the city of Littleton.
