BRONX, N.Y. – Bethex FCU is one of four community development financial institutions to win a $25,000 Wachovia Wells Fargo NEXT Award for Opportunity Finance.
The $16 million community development credit union was awarded the Community Impact prize for achieving a high volume and quality of community outputs to a severely distressed market where the poverty rate is 40.8% and more than half of the children live in poverty.
The other winners of the awards are: Forward Community Investments of Madison, Wis., for its work representing the very low-income un-served and underserved communities of Wisconsin; Business Carolina, a Columbia, S.C., a small business incubator; and Access to Capital for Entrepreneurs, formerly known as Appalachian Community Enterprises, of Cleveland, Ga., for its green microenterprise and business lending program.
