ARVADA, Colo.-Partner Credit Union here went all out for Bank Transfer Day, opening four branches that would normally be closed on Saturdays.
"We've actually seen a significant amount of traffic," said Leslie Spence, director of member services. "To be quite honest, we didn't really know what kind of numbers we were going to get. We did expect this day to be an educational piece, because we reached out to the current member base to tell them we'd be open on this day for their friends and family to come in and get to know us."
While PCU planned the day largely as an introduction to the institution, Spence noted it had hoped it might generate 25 new memberships. Two hours after opening, it had seen 14 new members join, on top of another 13 in the four days leading up to the event. Most new members set up direct deposit, but two also applied for auto loans, more said they would come back about car loans, and one even inquired about a mortgage, said Spence.
"We all knew this going into it, but we've had a lot of people say 'I'm very excited about the lack of fees,'" said Spence. "And of course that ties into the whole rate conversation and I think that's why we're getting that business."
Spence indicated most of the new members who were coming in tended to be younger and male.
