ARLINGTON, Va. — Brenda Turner has retired after 22 years as president and CEO of Arlington Community Federal Credit Union.
When Turner became CEO of ACFCU in 1992, it was known as Arlington County Employees Credit Union. At that time, the credit union had just $20 million in assets. Currently, Arlington Community FCU has $215 million in assets.
ACFCU's board of directors said it is engaged in a search for the credit union's next CEO. Karen Rosales is serving as interim CEO during the search process. Rosales has served as chief operations officer since 2010. She has 23 years of credit union experience.
Turner guided the credit union through many milestones, ACFCU noted. Early in 1996, Arlington County Employees CU merged with Arlington Schools FCU, further expanding its membership under the name Arlington Virginia Federal Credit Union. In 2005, Turner led the credit union through a community charter conversion, once again broadening the membership base to those who live, work, worship, go to school, volunteer or consistently do business in Arlington County.
In 2009, after several years of planning, the credit union built a new corporate headquarters facility. In anticipation of the move to the new headquarters, the CU changed its name to Arlington Community Federal Credit Union.
During Turner's career, ACFCU has grown to a base of more than 18,000 members, and offers a services ranging from savings to mortgage loans.
