‘Burly Bandit’ Sought In Dozen New England Heists

BOSTON – Authorities are hunting for an overweight robber they caught on surveillance video who may be responsible for as many as 12 credit union and bank robberies throughout New England over the past three months.

The so-called “Burly Bandit” is sought for holdups at Digital CU in Tyngsboro, Mass., on May 5, Pawtucket CU in Warwick, R.I., on May 27, Rockland FCU in North Attleboro, Mass., on May 27 and several area banks.

The FBI described the robber as a white male of a stocky build in his late 40s to early 50s. He is approximately 6 feet tall, has brown hair, and weighs between 250 and 300 pounds. The robber’s trademark is wearing a different accessory to conceal his face in each instance. Those disguises have included sunglasses, a wig, a cowboy hat, and, in Darien's case, a yarmulke.
