VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Chartway FCU announced John “Jack” McGrath, a member of the organization’s board of directors, passed away on Oct. 27.
Chartway FCU described McGrath as a longtime contributor to and ambassador of the credit union, as he served the organization as a volunteer for 22 years and as a board member for the past 18 years. In addition to holding positions as chairman, 1st and 2nd vice chair, and secretary of the board, McGrath served on and chaired a number of committees, including the Legislative/Regulatory & Advocacy Committee, History Book, Nominating, Technology, and Supervisory Committee. He also was a member of the credit union’s CUSO Board.
Chartway said McGrath was dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others, serving as a member of the We Promise Foundation Board. In this capacity, Chartway said McGrath helped bring smiles to the faces of children battling life-threatening illnesses by making their dreams come true.
Because of these contributions and many more, he was awarded the prestigious Roy F. Bergengren Award from the Virginia Credit Union League.
“Jack will long be remembered for his significant contributions,” said Ron Burniske, president and CEO of Chartway FCU. “He was generous, he was kind, and he was determined to leave the world a better place than he found it. For more than two decades, he worked tirelessly to help our members chart their financial futures and to improve the communities we serve. Jack was an inspiration to us all and will be dearly missed.”
