OTTAWA, Canada—The “Unite for Good” theme CUNA has created is aimed at CUs in the United States, but credit unions from around the world are being urged to use it, as well.
CUNA CEO Bill Cheney told the World CU Conference here that the “vision in the United States ties into the global credit union community and the global cooperative credit union community We need to unite for good so more people can benefit. Why a common vision? To put the movement on path of long-term growth.”
Cheney noted U.S. credit unions have benefited from a “cultural shift” away from Wall Street-based institutions toward locally operated institutions, especially those that operate for the benefit of their member-owners, such as cooperatives.
“We need to remove the barriers to growth,” said Cheney. “We need to create awareness so people understand the difference. We need younger and more diverse leaders. And if we drive people to credit unions, we need to foster service excellence so once they are there they stay and they talk to friends and family about joining.”
