DETROIT – Chrysler is back with an Invest in America discount for credit union members, a 1% discount off the dealer’s invoice price on a wide range of Chrysler vehicles.
The program runs through November 30. But CUcorp president and CEO David Adams expects that it will go much longer. “Once again we believe that credit unions will heavily promote the Chrysler incentive,” said Adams, who noted that the Invest in America CU car-buying discount program just passed 200,000 in vehicle sales, including GM brands. “We expect the Chrysler offer will continue into December and through 2010. It may not be this exact incentive, but I expect it will move forward in some form.”
Invest in America’s contract with Chrysler runs through December 31, 2009. Adams said CUcorp is working to extend the agreement through next year. The agreement with GM runs through 2010. Ford has a leasing pilot in place with Invest in America, which also recently added discounts through Thor Industries and Allied Van Lines.
Cash for Clunkers and Chrysler’s corporate restructuring prompted the carmaker to pull its Credit Union Cash program in late summer, Adams said. “It’s a good time for the discount to return, from the perspective of Chrysler and car buyers.”
Chrysler reported that its sales jumped 6% in October over September. “And the economy is starting to recover,” Adams said. “People are less afraid of losing their jobs and more are buying cars. We are upbeat about the continued progress of the domestic automobile industry and the role Invest in America has played in that.”
Invest in America was developed by and is being led by CUcorp, a subsidiary of the Michigan Credit Union League.
