Cisco Acquires Tandberg

SAN FRANCISCO – Cisco Systems has acquired Tandberg, a Norway-based video communications company that has been active in credit unions, pitching itself as a means of improving member service and reducing costs.

Cisco, which is spending $3-billion on the acquisition, also offers similar video-conferencing capabilities, but not some of the smaller, less expensive options offered by Tandberg. Tandberg’s technology is used by some credit unions as a means of meeting “face to face” with members in remote branches, for instance, and as a means of far-flung management staff to meet while avoiding travel costs.

Tandberg most recently demonstrated its technology at the World Council of Credit Unions’ World CU Conference in Barcelona, Spain, where it used an artist in London to draw caricatures of attendees at the meeting.
