WASHINGTON-After collecting almost 6,000 signatures on a petition aimed at changing the NCUA Board nomination process, Co-Ops for Change said it will enter a new phase with an announcement this week.
"Mustering 6,000 supporters in a month is not a small success, and we're very pleased with the progress made in creating awareness of the issue," said Chip Filson, Co-Ops for Change founder and chairman of Callahan & Associates, in a released statement. "At the same time, a key lesson from the first 30 days is that many CEOs don't have a mechanism to quickly activate member support, and some don't have standing authority to select and approve messages that advance cooperative principles."
Filson said Co-Ops for Change is in the process of creating a forum "for a number of industry-wide issues," and that other plans include providing "ongoing examples of cooperative principles in action-at the heart of credit union business model and vital for regulators to take into account."
