WICHITA, Kan. – A former star running back at Washburn University in Topeka on Monday was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for robbing an Envista CU branch last summer.
Vershon Moore, 22, who had earned all-conference honors the previous year, was kicked off the school’s football team after his arrest in August.
Moore’s co-defendant in the case, Tracie Bacon, worked at the Topeka credit union and admitted to helping Moore plan the robbery.
Two employees had walked outside to fill an ATM with cash when Moore pulled up in an SUV and robbed them at gunpoint. Witnesses saw the vehicle’s license plate, which was registered to Moore’s girlfriend, according to court documents.
Moore and Bacon, 22, both pleaded guilty to bank robbery. Bacon also was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
