The demolition, which was ordered by the Shaheen family, which sold the property to the credit union, angered preservationists and others who had organized to save the historic building.

The 5,000-square-foot branch will have a lobby, Internet cafe and a drive-thru. The credit union hopes to break ground in September and open the branch in June.
