ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Credit Union 1 has agreed to build a new branch in the underserved neighborhood of Mountain View as part of the city’s renewal plans for the community.

The branch marks the first time in 20 years a financial institution has located in the neighborhood.
City fathers hope the credit union project will anchor other revitalization initiatives, with plans for a new library, arts center, police substation, renovated housing and road improvements also in the works.
The last bank in Mountain View, Alaska Statebank, left in 1988, citing at least five years of losses.
