Based in Alexandria, Va., ACUIA has more than 700 members nationwide, while CUIAA has primarily focused on credit unions located in California and Nevada.

“Internal audit within credit unions continues to be a growing field and we are pleased to welcome the members of CUIAA to further advance the profession of internal audit and risk management,” ACUIA chairman John Gallagher said in a statement.

Andy Kecskes, chairman of CUIAA, characterized the proposed merger a “win-win” for both associations.

“It will give our members access to more training opportunities in both of our regional areas with the resources available through ACUIA,” Kecskes added.

The combined association will continue to be managed by Bacino & Associates, a government relations, strategic planning, advocacy and association management firm based in Alexandria, Va.
