DENVER – The nation’s credit unions will be looking to make themselves heard above the din here this week when the Democratic National Convention is held.
Both CUNA and NAFCU will have representatives on hand for the convention, at which presumptive nominee Sen. Barack Obama is expected to officially receive his party’s endorsement in the race for presidency. While thousands will be on hand, credit unions’ ability to raise both funds and to turn out grassroots volunteers and voters ensure their voice is prominent. Obama already is on the record in support of the credit union tax exemption, as is presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain.
Prior to this week’s convention, credit unions already had been active here with other groups as part of “Homes for Our Troops,” a non-profit organization that builds specially adapted homes across the United States for severely wounded American troops. One such home has been built in Denver, another in Minneapolis, home to the upcoming Republican National Convention.
