The Des Moines Register provided coverage of the return of financial institutions to the small town of Kellog, Iowa, which has had no financial services since a bank left town four years ago. The town of 600 people will now be served by Hedrick Savings Bank, which is joining a branch of Citizens Community CU. The Ft. Dodge-based CU told the newspaper it expects to draw most of its members from those who already belong to the grain co-op.
The Dayton Daily News highlighted the new student credit union now in operation at Centerville High School in conjunction with Day-Air CU. The story highlighted how the branch part of the Business Technology Tech Prep program and noted the CU will sponsor seminars to teach students to be responsible in managing money. The story added several other CUs, including FirstDay Financial FCU, also operate such branches.
The Battle Creek Enquirer provided a look at the opening of Inspire Community FCU, which is aimed at a low-income FOM. The story noted that the future CU's manager, Kathie Black, had returned after undergoing training at CUNA. The Rev. Dave Morton, chairman of the ICFCU board, also attended the training as part of the Community Development Credit Union Institute.
