FORT KENT, Maine – The Financial Literacy Partnership between Acadia FCU and the University of Maine received a $12,000 grant from the National CU Foundation to fund a pilot program focused on financial education.
The priority of this new Financial Literacy Project is to educate students of all ages about the importance of saving money and planning their financial futures. The “Benny Banks” program was officially launched on Nov. 22.
The grant is being used to fund the coordination of various events, development of resource material and creation of financial literacy kits. Representatives from Acadia and students majoring in education at UMaine, Fort Kent, visit schools and collaborate with teachers about the importance of financial planning. Educators are provided with financial planning supplies, resource materials and teaching tools to continue financial literacy development throughout the academic year.
