The council gave awards to Hilary Reed, Carol Payne, Teea Reed and Sandi Carangi.

Hilary Reed, SVP and chief relationship officer for $82 million Inspire FCU, Bristol, Pa., won the Marketing Professional of the Year Award.

According to the council, Reed was recognized for a decade of "focused effort and achieved success" for Inspire FCU, along with the work she has done for the credit union industry as an active member of the CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council. Reed has been instrumental in helping her credit union gain a reputation as an innovator and early adaptor of such marketing initiatives and techniques as social media integration, youth marketing, retail banking strategies, and unique retention strategies, in addition to driving profitable growth.

The council said Reed has "thrived" on helping other credit unions achieve success by a number of activities at local, state and national levels.

Carol Payne, VP, communications & marketing for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, Ontario, Calif., won the Hall of Fame Award.

The council chose Payne for her "enormous contributions" in publications, marketing and communications for the industry. She has helped make the California and Nevada Credit Union League one the most recognized state trade associations in the United States. Payne is responsible for managing the corporate branding and external marketing efforts of the league, and was instrumental in getting the Leagues' most successful industry-wide marketing campaign — "Credit Unions. For People. Not Profit." — national attention.

Payne has been involved in the CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council for more than 20 years, and served on the executive committee for more than six years. She has won some 80 industry awards.

Teea Reed, director of marketing and business development, $330 million Union Square FCU, Wichita Falls Texas, won the Rising Star of the Year Award.

The council said this new award recognizes and honors rising professionals with two of fewer years of experience in the credit union industry. Reed was recognized for her positive impact at Union Square FCU, other credit unions in her state and in her community.

According to the council, the marketing campaigns Reed developed with Union Square FCU created "significant positive increases across multiple levels." Reed also helped start a Children's Miracle Network movement among the credit unions in her community and has been active in young professional networks.

Sandi Carangi, CEO of $68 million Mercer County Community FCU, Hermitage, Pa., was presented with the Volunteer of the Year Award.

As a member-led organization, the council noted it relies on volunteers, and said this award recognizes those contributions to the Council. Carangi serves on the Member Resources Committee. During her tenure on the MRC, Carangi has been a "significant contributor" to the committee's success, the Council said.
