MADISON, Wis. CUNA Mutual Group and its employees union, the Office of Professional Employees International Union Local 39, appear to be nearing an agreement on employee pay raises but are still far apart on the major issues under labor negotiations, those are the company’s contributions to defined benefits and retiree health coverage.
Management is considering the latest offer submitted by the Union and the two sides are scheduled to meet Tuesday to discuss the latest proposal, according to sources involved in the negotiations.
The two sides are getting close to an agreement on raises for the proposed three-year pact, with the company offering 3%, 3% and 2%; and the Union wanting 3% for each of the years, the source told the Credit Union Journal today.
But major differences appear to remain on the benefits proposal, with CUNA Mutual wanting to pay a lesser share than under the current contract, the sources said.
The contract covers 700 of CUNA Mutual’s 1,750 employees in Madison. That number is down from almost 1,300 in 2005 and 860 in 2008.
The same union also represents clerical and office workers at CUNA and the World Council of CUs.
