CUNA Mutual Names Post As Its New President

CUNA Mutual Group has named Jeff Post as its new CEO. Post is the former CEO of Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.

For Post it will be a return to Madison, as he received a bachelor's degree in business administration, majoring in actuarial science, from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Post will replace Jeff Holley, who had served since August as acting president and chief executive officer. Holley is returning to his former role as CFO of CUNA Mutual. Lon Sprecher, who has served as interim CFO, is returning to his role as Credit Union Employee and CU Protection Solutions Group leader.

The search was put into motion by the resignation of Mike Kitchen, the former CUNA Mutual CEO whose contact with employees who belong to a union that remains in an ongoing labor dispute with the company was found to be inappropriate.

Some of those employees recently separated from the union to form their own bargaining unit.

Post, 44, served with Fireman's Fund for 10 years, his last three years as CEO. He resigned the position in May, 2004, citing "personal reasons" and left the company at his own request. CUNA Mutual said that as CEO, Post led the company to improve underwriting results by more than $1 billion and repositioned the company to market leadership in five business segments.

About His Previous Employer

For its last fiscal year, Fireman's Fund had $10 billion in assets, $5 billion in annual gross premiums and employed 4,800 people. It is part of Munich, Germany-based Allianz group.

In addition to his role as CEO of Fireman's Fund, Post served on the parent firm's International Executive Committee.

CUNA Mutual said that Post was traveling at press time and unavailable for comment.

The company released a statement from Post in which he said, "From an early age, I knew I wanted to be in the insurance business. I attribute much of that interest to my grandfather who was an independent agent. He was a very important part of my young life and always talked positively about the insurance industry. I'm delighted to return to the Midwest and, in particular, to return to Madison. I look forward to helping CUNA Mutual deliver the highest quality solutions and services to credit unions and their members-in this country and around the world. My personal values are highly aligned with the corporate values of CUNA Mutual and the credit union system."

Post also served as chief actuary and chief financial officer at Fireman's Fund. He is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
