CUNA to Spearhead Garden Installations at Children's Hospitals

The Credit Union National Association has partnered with the Republican and Democratic parties to provide garden spaces at children's hospitals in Cleveland and Philadelphia.

The gardens will be installed in the months leading up to the two parties' national conventions. The Democrats will stage their convention this year at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, while the Republicans' will be held at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.

Credit unions have a tradition of honoring the parties' national conventions, held during presidential election years, with a "leave behind" project in the city where the convention is staged.

In Cleveland, a year-round horticultural therapy suite will be installed at University Hospitals of Cleveland's Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. At the Karabots Pediatric Care Center, part of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, an outdoor health and wellness garden will be placed.

"We're working to ensure that children and their families have a comforting place to cultivate, learn, heal and reenergize during their stay at these great hospitals," Jim Nussle, CUNA's chief executive, said in a news release.

The Ohio Credit Union League and the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association is each leading efforts to raise money to pay for the outdoor installations.
