WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The former Lexington, George Washington Inn and Conference Center on Merrimac Trail in York County sold for $795,000 at auction Tuesday to the 14 credit unions, led by Langley FCU, which loaned money to the former owner.
The hotel closed in September 2011, three years after undergoing approximately $4 million in renovations. The hotel, which was owned by Citiscape GWI LLC, was valued at $3.14 million, according to York County property records.
The 160,000-square-foot hotel was built in 1973 and has 247 rooms.
The property went up for auction after the original plan to convert the hotel to an assisted living property catering to seniors fell through due to lack of financing. Meridian Assisted Living Home would have been a senior housing facility with up to 150 assisted living units, associated staff and support facilities, common areas, five guest suites, and an 8,000-square foot public banquet facility.
