CUs Hear Little of What They Were Hoping For

WASHINGTON-The country got one of its first official glimpses at the person dubbed the consumer protection czar last week when Elizabeth Warren spoke to NAFCU's Congressional Caucus. Warren, who has not always been a friend to credit unions during her influential career, used the opportunity to note she is a long-time CU member and that her goals include making it eaier for smaller banks and credit unions to compete. • CUs were told to get more aggressive in expanding into payday lending.

• Members of Congress seemed to agree that MBL relief is not in the offing.

• NCUA board members addressed the ongoing corporate assessments, but did not offer any numbers on what 2011 might hold.
