RICHMOND, Va. – Kids from low-income families around the country are returning to school this week with backpacks full of supplies, thanks to various credit unions.

Among them, Virginia Credit Union, where employees furnished 140 backpacks stuffed full with back-to-school supplies. The credit union’s 13 branches helped collect supplies as part of the YMCA of Greater Richmond’s Bright Beginnings program.
In Ft. Wayne, Ind., backpacks were also filled with school supplies, thanks to the efforts of Public Service Credit Union. Employees raised $300 to purchase the school materials.
