Deficit of $6B Puts NY CUs On Alert

With New York facing an estimated $6-billion budget deficit we-like those in other states-are maintaining a vigilant watch on this year's legislative climate.

The New York State Credit Union League sees being proactive as fundamental to maintaining a productive climate for our credit unions. Our affiliates are involved in efforts to educate the public-including elected officials-on the value of credit unions. Support for CULAC/CUPAC has increased every year; participation in Project Zip Code and Project Differentiation is growing quickly, and more credit unions are active at the grassroots level.

Now, under our Credit Union Advocacy Plan, we are stepping up efforts to show legislators how highly their constituents' rate credit unions. To reinforce our message, we are working even more intensively to reach the general public through the media. Credit unions themselves are key. The New York credit union community must be prepared and united.
