PHOENIX – Desert Schools FCU has awarded a $150,000 grant over three years to support the Balsz Promise Neighborhood Project, which focuses on education from cradle to college in the Phoenix area.
“Desert Schools believes that being a good corporate citizen in the local community is more than a mantra; it’s truly at the heart of everything we do,” said Desert Schools CEO Susan Frank in a released statement. “We are committed to building strong, resilient communities, and that starts with great partnerships with organizations that share our vision.”
The BPN project is comprised of the Balsz Elementary School District, Valley of the Sun United Way and other community nonprofit and governmental organizations. The BESD is in the east side of Phoenix and has a high percentage of residents below the poverty line, receiving Medicare, extreme housing instability, and is home to Arizona’s largest family homeless shelter.
