DEARBORN, Mich. - Though no new hearing date has been set in the DFCU Financial Credit Union lawsuit over the CU's ill-fated conversion, petitions were expected to be submitted to the CU late last week that could place seven new candidates on the February ballot for board seats.
DFCU Owners United, the members group that led the battle against the credit union's attempt to convert to a mutual savings bank has endorsed the seven candidates - including former DFCU Financial Board Chair Linda Malec - announced on its website, www.savemycu.com, that it had collected the petitions and would forward them to the CU's post office box by 1 p.m., Nov. 30, the deadline for submissions.
"We believe this is the first time in about 20 years (or longer) that there will be more than one candidate running to fill each board position available,'' the website stated.
According to DFCU Financial by-laws, members who wish to run for election and are not nominated by the Nominating Committee of DFCU Financial may have their names placed in nomination by petition.
In DFCU Financial's 4th quarter newsletter announcing the nominating committee's choices, it stated that petitions from other potential candidates must be signed by 500 members. Nominations from the floor will not be accepted.
If approved, the candidates will join three others selected by the CU's nominating committee in an election to be held during DFCU Financial's annual membership meeting on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Dearborn.
