HAVERHILL, Mass. – Haverhill Bank said its president and chief operating officer, Peter DiBenedetto, is stepping down after successfully completing the first credit union merger with a bank in Massachusetts.
DiBenedetto was president of Northeast Community CU, a $125 million credit union that earlier this year combined with the local bank after a two-year effort.
The bank said in a statement DiBenedetto is resigning to pursue other career opportunities. Thomas Faulkner, who had headed Haverhill Bank, will assume DiBenedetto's responsibilities, serving as chairman and president of institution for the interim.
DiBenedetto began his career as an examiner for the state Department of Banking and joined Northeast Community CU in 1977 as treasurer, and eventually was eventually named CEO.
