The six-story, 180,000 square-foot office building is one of two corporate headquarters being sited in the downtown, joining local telecommunications company PAETEC, which also is building new offices here.

The new ESL building will be energy efficient and house 300 of the $3 billion credit union’s employees, with room for 200 more.

Construction is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2010.

ESL was chartered in 1920 as Eastman Savings and Loan Association by George Eastman, founder of Eastman Kodak Company. In 1996 it became one of the few S&Ls to successfully convert to a credit union, growing since then into the largest credit union in New York.
