RANTOUL, Ill. – A one-time employee at Credit Union 1, heard gloating in a recorded conversation, “Miami here I come,” was charged with stealing $100,000 from the credit union with account information provided by a current employee.
Ronald Winston Jr., 23, and Alana Atchison were charged in a three-count indictment, unsealed Monday, with participating in the scheme to steal from Credit Union 1.
Winston, who worked at Credit Union 1 for nine months in 2007, allegedly contacted Atchison in early 2009, telling her he needed more detailed personal information on accounts he was targeting, according to the criminal complaint. Atchison agreed to help after Winston offered her $10,000 – money she never received. She agreed to cooperate with investigators, who then set up a fake account with $90,000 in it.
When she told him about the account and asked in a recorded phone call what information he needed, Winston allegedly replied, “Everything that's on that damn screen.”
“I'm going to sit on this for a month, then hit it. ... Then Miami here I come,” he allegedly said later, before being arrested in October, according to the complaint.
