FAA CU Is Offering A Second Chance At Thrifty Romance

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.-After a successful debut in 2011, $511-million FAA Credit Union is bringing back its $40 Date Night Challenge for a second date.

Couples have the opportunity to go on a date with a budget of $40 and document the details on a blog. Winners can claim a $250 cash prize.

The challenge is open to the public. Potential contestants have been asked to submit an e-mail to FAA CU's marketing department explaining why they need a night out on the town.

From these submissions, the credit union will choose four couples to compete head to head. Among other guidelines, couples must stay within the $40 budget, are encouraged to be creative, and are asked to use non-franchised, local restaurants that are in the Oklahoma City metro area.

The blog submissions will be posted on the credit union's website, www.faaecu.org, where the public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite.

Katie Gillian, senior marketing specialist, said the goal is "to raise awareness and get people more involved in our social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and our Blog."

"Also, it is a fun, out-of-the-box contest," she said. "We are encouraging people to have fun and save money. We tell them the entertainment portion of the date has to be something other than movies or bowling. People have to think outside the box."

Meanwhile, while FAA CU has the attention of its members, it is running a "Fridays in February" promotion, Gillian said. There are four different loan specials: for home loans, auto, personal and credit cards.

"All four of these feature special rates plus other incentives, including a 1% rebate for balance transfers to Visa cards. Our lobbies are all decked out."

FAA CU has more than 50,000 members and serves eight counties.
