SUMTER, S.C. – A woman who apparently robbed a SAFE FCU branch Monday afternoon was arrested by police after her family tipped investigators off.
Frances Ellison, 51, allegedly walked into the branch around 3:00pm and told the teller to fill a bag with a large amount of money. The teller complied and the assailant left with the cash.
Witnesses described the robber to responding officers, who immediately began searching the area. During the search, police received a call from someone in Ellison's family who said Ellison had returned to her home off with a large amount of cash.
Officers responded to the house and verified that the cash had been taken from the credit union.
