First Award For Adoptions May Be Near

GLENDORA, Calif.-America's Christian Credit Union still has not had a taker for grant program it introduced earlier this year that awards $5,000 to any employee adopting a child to help defray the many expenses involved in the adoption process.

At the time of introduction, Bruce Lund, AVP of marketing for the $250.7-million CU, told Credit Union Journal the new program is, "Something that speaks to our mission and who we serve-churches and ministries."

Recently, Lund reported ACCU is "super close" to having its first adoption grant recipient.

"One family here has been told they will have an adoption in place by Christmas," he said. "That will be our first one, plus there are other employees who are in various stages of the adoption process, so we are pretty excited about that."

According to Lund, the reason no one has taken up the CU on its offer is adoption takes quite a lot of time, including home visits by the agency and extensive profiling.

"We are very happy to help the family with this process," he said. "It is a good will enhancement that allows us to say we think this is something that will be helpful in the journey."
